Post-AGM Address from the President

Dear Members of Westside Youth Soccer Association,

I want to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who attended our Annual General Meeting. Your participation, insights, and dedication to our association help shape the future of youth soccer in our community, and I truly appreciate the time you took to be part of this important event.

During the meeting, we highlighted key achievements from the past year, including the addition of new leadership staff and highly qualified coaches who are committed to elevating our coaching support and program offerings. We also demonstrated a stronger financial stewardship of the club and introduced new club software designed to improve communication with our membership—making it simpler and more consistent. We discussed the challenges we faced over the past year and shared exciting updates about our strategic direction moving forward. Our Strategic Plan, which outlines our vision for the coming years, is now available on our website (https://www.wysa.ca/about). I encourage you to take a look and share any feedback or ideas as we work together to grow and strengthen our programs.

I am also pleased to welcome our new board members - Discipline Director Ken Hutchinson, Director at Large Jacob Salway, and COYSA Representative Jeremy Schaubroeck, who have stepped up to serve in leadership roles. We are very fortunate to have Vice President Chris Fraser and Executive Director at Large Dan Bourbonniere continuing their service on our board for the second year of their term. Your commitment to our players and community is invaluable, and I look forward to working alongside you to continue improving and expanding opportunities for all involved.

I would also like to express a heartfelt thank you to our outgoing board members; President Sandra Campbell, Treasurer Jena Friedrich, Equipment Director Dyllon Lemieux, Uniform Director Eric Scramstad, Discipline Director Michael Duncan, Directors at Large Sean Brush and Tyler Neels, and COYSA Representative Bob Hackman for their dedicated service. Your contributions have made a lasting impact on our association, and we are deeply grateful for the time, effort, and passion you’ve invested in helping us move forward.

At the same time, we are still in need of volunteers for our Secretary and Treasurer positions. Our association thrives on the passion and dedication of volunteers, and we would love to see more members get involved. If you or someone you know is interested in contributing—whether as a coach, team manager, board member or in another role—please reach out. Every bit of help makes a significant impact!

Thank you again for your continued support and commitment to our young athletes. We are excited about the future of WYSA and look forward to an incredible season ahead!

Best regards,

Kaleena van den Born
WYSA President

WESTSIDE YOUTH SOCCER is excited to partner with the Unisus School's Everton FC International Academy program as we get back on the field for the fall season. First up in the partnership is an often neglected age group of U16-U18 boys. WYSA’s Executive Director Matt Holbrook noted, “we recognize that many players leave the sport in their older teenage years for other pursuits, or simply quit playing due to a lack of opportunity and quality programs. With this exciting relationship with an English Premier League academy program, we are pleased to provide elite coaching from Dominic Doherty who will be supported with WYSA staff”. Starting September 19, and running for an initial 6 Friday night sessions, this program is for players in the 2010-2008 born age groups. At a great introductory rate of $119 which includes a JOMA training shirt, this is an opportunity to train in West Kelowna with a coach who has worked with the Everton FC academy in the UK and around the world. RESUME OF DOMINIC DOHERTY (TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, EVERTON FC ACADEMY PROGRAM @ UNISUS SCHOOL): UEFA B Licence 4 years with the Everton FC International Academy Coached in the Manchester City and Chicago Fire youth programs Lecturer @ Wrexham University (Wales) Coach Educator with the FAW This program takes place at CNB school in September/October, and then the second phase of this program will move indoors in November.
