A group of children are playing soccer on a field.

WYSA is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Thrive Kelowna, a leading fitness and athletic performance organization, to provide specialized coaching services for our players. This collaboration marks a significant step in our commitment to developing well-rounded athletes and maximizing player potential.

Thrive Kelowna brings a wealth of expertise in strength and conditioning, injury prevention, and performance enhancement. Their team of certified trainers will work closely with our players to develop training programs that focus on:

  • Strength and Conditioning: Building overall athleticism and power.
  • Speed and Agility: Enhancing on-field quickness and reaction time.
  • Injury Prevention: Implementing strategies to minimize the risk of injuries.
  • Benchmark Testing: Setting the bar for current and future athletic testing amongst WYSA players.

"We are incredibly excited to partner with Thrive Kelowna," said Matt Holbrook, Executive Director of Westside Youth Soccer Association. "Their proven track record in athletic performance will be invaluable in helping our players reach their full potential. This partnership underscores our dedication to providing our athletes with the best possible resources and training. Thrive Kelowna will support our Skills Centre and Academy team programs on the field this spring, and we can’t wait to build this partnership into the future".

Thrive Kelowna is equally enthusiastic about the partnership. Co-Owners Sam Spinelli and Nathan Obrigewitsch, commented “at Thrive Kelowna, we are committed to elevating athletic performance and long-term success for athletes at every level. Our mission is to be the difference maker in the lives of individuals and teams striving for excellence, whether that means increasing strength, preventing injuries, or optimizing sport performance. We’re excited to partner with Westside Youth Soccer Association to provide its athletes with top-tier strength and conditioning, injury prevention strategies, and expert coaching that goes beyond just making players sweat—it’s about delivering real results on the field. As part of our ongoing commitment to the Kelowna athletic community, we look forward to helping Westside Youth Soccer players get stronger, move better, and gain a competitive edge.”

This partnership will provide players with access to state-of-the-art training methods and cutting-edge techniques, ensuring they are prepared to compete at the highest level. The integration of Thrive Kelowna's expertise will be implemented into the Skills Centre and Academy team’s training schedules, and will provide personalized feedback to the athletes.

WESTSIDE YOUTH SOCCER is excited to partner with the Unisus School's Everton FC International Academy program as we get back on the field for the fall season. First up in the partnership is an often neglected age group of U16-U18 boys. WYSA’s Executive Director Matt Holbrook noted, “we recognize that many players leave the sport in their older teenage years for other pursuits, or simply quit playing due to a lack of opportunity and quality programs. With this exciting relationship with an English Premier League academy program, we are pleased to provide elite coaching from Dominic Doherty who will be supported with WYSA staff”. Starting September 19, and running for an initial 6 Friday night sessions, this program is for players in the 2010-2008 born age groups. At a great introductory rate of $119 which includes a JOMA training shirt, this is an opportunity to train in West Kelowna with a coach who has worked with the Everton FC academy in the UK and around the world. RESUME OF DOMINIC DOHERTY (TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, EVERTON FC ACADEMY PROGRAM @ UNISUS SCHOOL): UEFA B Licence 4 years with the Everton FC International Academy Coached in the Manchester City and Chicago Fire youth programs Lecturer @ Wrexham University (Wales) Coach Educator with the FAW This program takes place at CNB school in September/October, and then the second phase of this program will move indoors in November.
