Westside U6 (Born in 2004) Programs

Some Frequently Asked Questions for 2010 from the mini-coordinator

1. Practice time is 5:30 pm - 6:15 pm Thursdays, CNB Middle School
2. 1st Practice Might be the 15th of April (we will let you know by Monday 12th) IF we practice on the 15th your first game is Saturday the 17th
3. IF we practice on the 15th Please play the April 24th game schedule - YES you will play the same schedule on the 24th - so 2 weekends in a row you will play the same team.
4. If we do not have practice on the 15th we are encouraging U6 teams to hold a meet&greet at your regular Saturday game time/field (Webber Road Community Centre).  Hand out jerseys, chat with the parents/coaches, let the kids kick the ball around etc.
5. Dogs Ear in Kelowna prints names on jerseys.  There is a set rate for names this year. $3+taxes for each name.
6. It does not matter to the club if you get first or last names.
7. Players keep their jerseys & get a ball at the end of the season (last game) (yes the same balls you will be using for practices)
8. Players must have shin pads (On & Under socks) to play
9. WYSA colours are Green jerseys (U6 has multiple colours), Black shorts & Black socks.  If there is colour on the shorts it is not the end of the world especially as some families cannot afford new soccer shorts every year.
10. Proper soccer cleats are recommended for safety of our players.  For this age Wal Mart and Zellers have inexpensive options
11. Earrings or any piercings are NOT allowed on the field.  NO - taping of the ears is not allowed either. This is a safety concern for both the player with the piercing (having them tear out) and for other players (getting cut).  At this age there are lots of tumbles and crashes that could cause harm if ears are pierced.

More Info: http://www.soccer-for-parents.com  has quite a bit of information for those that are new to the game of soccer in general.
THE GAME:

ALL GAMES PLAY AT THE SAME START AND FINISH TIME (Schedule : Field Layout)

First game for the Girls to start at 10:00am.

First game for the Boys to start at 9:00am.

4 - ten minute quarters, 2 minutes between quarters and 4 minute half times
for oranges.

There is no use of hands at this level. Throw ins are kick ins. At every kick
off or kick in we give that team at least 5 yards to get the ball in play.
Substitute as often as you wish, but only at a stoppage in play.
The score is never kept, the play of the players is what we encourage.
The coaches are on the field to encourage the players and assist with
proper and sportsman like play.
Encourage a team cheer and shaking of hands upon completion of each
game.

THE FIELD:
The fields will be marked for the games. They are roughly 20 yards by 30 yards.
The goal is 3 yards wide. The goal crease is 7 yards by 5 yards. The top of the
goal is about 6 feet high.

Each team is responsible for the field associated with the number of their team.
ie: team 3 sets up field 3

REMEMBER: FUN FIRST, TEAM WORK AND SOCCER SECOND

U-6 is the beginning frame work for soccer. We play a three (3) a side game with
NO GOALIES. The importance of this game is fun and nothing is more fun than
scoring a goal.
