Medical and Emergency Contact Forms
Welcome to the 2010 soccer season! We look forward to working with your player in the 2010 season. We are focused on providing a means for your child to develop skills, including social, sport and team that will enhance their enjoyment of the game of soccer. Each player who registers on time will be placed on a Westside team. Past team placements will not dictate or ensure your current season placement. The single most difficult registration issue every year is the large volume of late registrations. We must declare to COYSA (Central Okanagan Youth Soccer Association) the number of teams we are forming by mid-February and we cannot change those numbers after the COYSA deadline. We make every effort to place late registrants onto a team, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee placement if the registration is received after the January 23rd deadline. Although we strive to make the soccer experience positive for all of our 1,300+ players, it is impossible to meet every parental concern. The volunteers who deal with registration appreciate your understanding of the complex decisions that need to be made each season in this regard. We look forward to receiving your completed registration form by January 23rd, and to a successful 2010 soccer season.
Required Equipment
All players must wear black shorts, black socks, shin pads, and cleats. WYSA provides all our players from U6-U18 with a jersey they can keep at the end of the season.
In the event of cold weather a T-shirt of similar colour to the jersey may be worn under the jersey.
In order to prevent injuries jewelry cannot be worn during the game. This means that ears should not be pierced during or immediately prior to the season since the earrings will have to be removed before the game as it is NO longer acceptable to tape earrings as per FIFA rules.
More Info: http://www.soccer-for-parents.com has quite a bit of information for those that are new to the game of soccer in general.
League Format
The U6-U12 age groups play in a variety of small sided Mini games (3 a side up to 8 a side) depending on their age. U6 - U10 do not have official game results or standings in order to put more emphasis on fun and learning. This year the U11+ age groups will report their scores to COYSA and if they qualify will play in the Kelowna Cup in the fall. More details on the U6-U12 rules can found at the bottom of this page.
The U-6 program meets every Saturday at 9:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m. at the same Westside location, Webber Road Community Centre. Your season ends at the end of June.
The U-7 and up groups play in the Central Okanagan area, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country.
DIVISIONAL PLAY U11 - U18 Welcome players, parents and coaches to the 2010 soccer season. We hope the following information is helpful to your understanding of how Divisional soccer is set up and run within our COYSA league. If you have questions, please feel free to call us at 707-0203 or by e-mail at wssoccer@shaw.ca.
U11 - U12 The 11s & 12s will play 8-a-side games to allow for more advanced developmental soccer. This will also be the first years of competitive soccer for these players and scores will be kept.
U13 - U18
COYSA as a group has decided to do tiering within the house system for the U14 Boys and Girls for 2010, other groups are expected in 2011. The details are listed below.
COYSA Divisional House Tiering
″ Each club will be responsible for tiering their competitive tier one
house and developmental/recreational tier two house teams. It is up
to each club to decide the final makeup of each team and what tier
they are to play at for the start of each year.
″ Clubs should use past team performance balanced with information
gathered by the clubs thru their coaches and other club resources to
evaluate and assess house players in areas of technical and physical
abilities, game intelligence, game awareness, and attitude.
″ Individual player or team assessments are the responsibility of each
club. Putting a Tier one team together should enhance the playing
experience not only for Tier one players or high performance teams
but for new players or inexperience players who are trying to
improve their game skills at the developmental tier two level.
Team Evaluations
″ After four games COYSA will evaluate team performance by
committee. In the event of striking differences in team play, COYSA
may move a team from one tier to another after the fifth game is
played.
″ COYSA will do a second team performance evaluation by committee
during the summer break. In the event of striking differences in
team play, COYSA may move a team from one tier to another before
fall play begins.
Kelowna Cup Based on Fall Session Standings Kelowna Cup day will see one game per team - 1st will play 2nd and 3rd will play 4th.
What is COYSA
COYSA is the Central Okanagan Youth Soccer Association. It is the coordinating body for the 6 clubs in the Kelowna area (Westside, Mission, Kelowna, Rutland, Lake Country and Kelowna United). http://www.centraloksoccer.com
